Things The Hubs Says...

We got blasted with snow yesterday and last night...about 5+ inches according to our expert opinion.

All morning we've been going back and forth with J to figure out if she's going to be able to make it and if I can even make it out of our neighborhood to get to work. The plows haven't yet been through the side streets and our drive isn't scooped. We have a service that comes out and does it for us, but they aren't the quickest so I found myself contemplating scooping and just as quickly as it entered my mind, I quickly dismissed it.

Nick bundled up to shovel a quick path for Maya to be able to get down to the yard to do her business...and I asked him why he wouldn't just go out and scoop the drive. He all but laughed in my face.

After he came back in he asks, "do you think I'm less of a man because I don't scoop our drive and hire someone to do it instead?"

Me: "no, not really. I wouldn't want to do it either."

Him: "good, because I went to college so I wouldn't have to scoop sidewalks."

Oh, so that's why you went to college. Thanks for clearing that up.

How Very Different We Are

Does everyone out there know what this is?

I'm pretty sure most people in the United States of America do...except for my husband.  I have to giggle at some of the things he doesn't know or deal with having never worked in corporate America.

We received some papers in the mail the other day from our accountant and it was a relatively large pile of them so they were bound by...you guessed it, a binder clip. As we were looking through them, I took the binder clip off and once we were done, Nick picked it up and was messing with it.

"How in the hell do you work this thing?" he asked.

"Work what thing?" was my reply.

"This black thing that was holding these papers together."

"You mean, the binder clip? You're kidding, right?"

Nope. He wasn't kidding. He proceeded to fumble with it for a couple minutes while I stood watching in amazement. Shocked that as smart as he is, he couldn't figure out how this device would ever get back on our pile of papers. And then I grabbed it from him and proceeded to slowly bend back the silver parts, squeeze and attach.

Now was his turn to be amazed.

"That thing is awesome!"

Yes, honey, it is. It really is...

Three Amazing Years

On August 1, the hubby and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary (yes, this post is almost a month over late). I cannot believe it's already been three years, but yet it also feels like we've been together a lifetime...Well, we basically have... at least since October 11, 2000, the day we started dating. I absolutely love this man and couldn't imagine spending my life with anyone else.

I have to say that we aren't great with planning in advance a celebration around our anniversary (is that the woman's job? Fail.). For the most part, we've just tried to spend some time together when our anniversary comes around, however, that wasn't the case this year. I was actually in Vegas for work and flying back that night AND to top it off both the hubby and I were sick. What a terrible way to celebrate THREE years together.

So, what are we going to do to celebrate you may ask? We are going to try and find some time in the near future to get an overnight sitter for little man, get a hotel room, plan dinner and drinks and just spending some time together. And I can't wait. It's been too long since we've went out on a date...just the two of us...and I used to love our date nights.

Now the question is: what do I get him that falls under the 3rd anniversary material: leather? I can think of some things, but they aren't appropriate for this blog. :)

Some pics of one of my most favorite days ever...three years ago.

Another Laugh at the Hubby's Expense

During my pregnancy, I had a couple of "my hubby says the darndest things" moments. It was shocking to me at the time that such a smart man could be lacking the natural understanding of what it takes to raise a child. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, though, because he didn't grow up having to help raise his little brother {his mom handled that very well} and when our sisters & brothers were having kids, he wasn't interested in cooing at the new baby or changing a diaper {as most men aren't}. So no wonder he didn't have a knack for this parenting stuff right off the bat.

And I have to preface this with this statement: my husband is a great dad. Not that I didn't think he would be, but it's so amazing at how easily the knack of parenting has come to him.
Still...he continues to make me laugh with his silly comments. Yesterday, we were talking on the phone as both of us were leaving work trying to figure out who was going to pick up little man. I told him I needed to stop at the store and pick up baby food {since we've recently started him on solids} and it would be easier to run in and out without having to lug around the car seat and diaper bag.

Him: "Why do you need to get baby food tonight?"

Me: "Because we are out. Now that he has started solids we need to be consistent with giving him food around the same time each night and try not to skip any nights so we can make sure he doesn't have any allergies to certain foods."

Him: "Oh, I thought it was just a treat we were giving him. Like how your sister gives the kids ice cream every now and again."

Me: "Um no. It's his meal, like dinner. He has to have it."
