Weekending

After traveling for work this week, I was looking forward to spending a low key weekend with my guys. Here's a quick recap of what we were up to.

Friday night-
Low key with just the Nut Job movie, our teepee, skittles and lots of pillows.

Saturday-
TRX class {I'm still sore}, major decluttering around the house, lunch at DJ's Dugout to start off football Saturdays for Nick the right way, a $150 keno win {seriously our #s came in on the last game, two of the last #s}, errands while Cruz napped, more decluttering, a little paint project, some red wine, the Devil Wears Prada {don't hate} while Cruz slept next to me and then catching up with mom & dad when they got to our house from the Husker game.

Sunday-
Lounging around the house, coffee & breakfast {ok, all I had around the house was bananas, toast & oatmeal}, a Starbucks stop, Farmer's Market, cupcakes, getting rained on while running to our car from the Farmer's Market, lunch at Pitch & a little sauvignon blanc, eCreamery for dessert {Shark Tank fans, anyone?}, a little photo shoot in Dundee {ok just an iPhone, a cute boy and some brick walls}, shopping for a new comforter, visiting family, then home to relax while my parents were out on the town yet another night in a row while we lounged at home...me on my computer, Cruz fast asleep under the teepee and Nick doing a fantasy draft. =)

Does anyone else have similar Farmer's Market experiences as mine? I go with all of these ideas of fresh veggies and fruits I'm going to pick up for us to enjoy for the week and when I go through my purchases they include breads, cheeses, jerky, hot sauce, flowers and on this particular trip a giant balloon sword?

No? Me neither.

So, about my parents. They went to the Husker game on Saturday in Lincoln and left at halftime to hit up a new area downtown to watch the game. Mom, at one point, text me a pic of a bride-to-be having a guy do a belly shot off her and my dad brings home a shirt he picked up that says, 'if you don't bleed red, take your b*tch *ss home."  Exactly why I love them. =)

Leaving you with this little face. I kept asking Cruz to just smile like a normal person...and finally figured out that I had my head cocked to the side with my finger on my cheek while I was asking him to just smile and be normal....doh.

Fall Style: Gap Does It Again

It's a happy day around here, for me at least, because Gap's fall styles are out and I'm love, love, loving them.

Let me tell you, I'm not a big Gap fan for myself. It's not that there is anything wrong with Gap, I just never, ever find anything for myself.

When it comes to Cruz, though? This mama finds boatloads of cute stuff for my little. And I love dressing him. Whoever said it's not fun dressing boys, well honey, they were dead wrong.

Not only that but they have 40% off everything (Gap Friends & Family) through tomorrow. Only 35% off regular styles for non-card holders (not a bad thing, but I do love me my Gap card for this reason).

So I thought I would share a couple of outfits I've been crushing on lately.

Aaaand a couple of these items may or may not have landed in my bag when I was at the store earlier today.

Shh...don't tell my hubby. I sort of promised him no shopping for a while due to the packages arriving on our porch on the daily.

And because the reason we were at the store today was to pick up few key pieces for a gorgeous little's first birthday party, I had the chance to browse through the gal clothes and just about fell.in.love. Seriously, even though I love dressing my guy? Oh man, I fell in love with so many of the clothes I checked out today. I may need to get me one of these baby girls someday...so I can live my dreams of fashion through them.

So, I'm pretty sure I found almost 80 outfits in the toddler girl section that I would wear. Is that normal? And where can I find those ruffle trim shorts and leopard sweats in my size? Seriously. I need those both right now.

What fall styles are you loving - for your little or yourself? I would love some new shops to check out. =)

Oh Hey Friday {August 8, 2014}

Happy Friday all! Let's not spend a lot of time talking about the fact that I've been MIA on Fridays for about a gajillion months and just jump right into a few of my favorite things as of late, shall we?

{ONE}
This necklace. I didn't think I would find an everyday necklace to replace the love I have for the gold/citrine one my mom, sister & I found at a little street fair in NYC a few years ago, but I am totally infatuated with this one. I can't stop rockin' gold these days and add personalized in the mix...and you've sucked me in. Especially when the personalization has to do with my fave little man.

{TWO}
Planning bachelorette party ONE of TWO for my best gal. I mean, when you are that special, you get two parties in your honor. That definitely doesn't suck. Lingerie and handcuffs for days.

I just booked our hotel rooms at Hotel Deco in Omaha. I seriously am in love with this place. The decor. The old building it resides in. The restaurant downstairs. Nick and I had a little staycation here for our second anniversary and I fell in love. Can't wait to celebrate my girl Angie here in just a few short weeks.

via
Next up, finalizing the details of her Austin, TX party. I've never been, so if anyone has any tips, places to go/see...I'm all ears.

{THREE}
Balls.

Not those kind of balls. Get yo head outta the gutter.

No, what I'm talking about are these balls. Energy balls. My SIL Morgan made me some (well, let's be honest they were for her but I snuck one...or two. Fine, three.) on our beach vacay last weekend and I couldn't get enough.

And since then I've made them and you all know I can't cook. They were easy AND delicious. Check them out.

{FOUR}
I've been in a bit of a rut lately with my work wardrobe. Enter this dress. I'm in love. The fabric. The ruching. The length. And the exposed zipper that runs up the back of the dress. I adore it all. And it hugs in all the right places. Which ladies, we know that is good. So of course I'm glad I bought it in both black and green.

{FIVE}
And finally, so I know that it's a bit biased and all to talk about how I think my son is just the cutest thing ever (well, he is) and how everything he does is fantastically amazing (it is), but can you look at this video and not fall in love. I mean, seriously. I think I've watched it no fewer than 10,000 times already.

Eat your heart out Jake Owen.

And have a great weekend, would ya?

Formula Feeding vs. Breastfeeding...that is the question.

The lovely Julie over at The Girl in the Red Shoes has been oh so kind to feature my little twist on her popular Breastfeeding Diaries series.

As some of you may know, I didn't breastfeed.

So what does a girl like me, who knows nothing about breastfeeding - but the basics, of course - have to do with a breastfeeding series? Well, hop on over to Julie's blog and check it out.

And, this got me thinking. If you have a little one...or three, did you formula feed or breastfeed? What was your experience like?

Cheers to our Independence

'Merica Tank
You know you had a great weekend, when...

  • You're actually looking forward to Monday so your body - aka liver - can detox.
  • You've consumed so many Coronas, you're confident the Mexican economy is going to have a great second half of the year.
  • You were too busy playing with your kiddo and hanging with your family & friends out in the sun to take part in ANY of the great sales going on all weekend. Unless you count the fact that Hy-Vee had an 18-pk of Corona for sale cheaper than the gas station. So you bought two.
  • In your morning TRX Cardio Bootcamp class, you can barely hold a plank for 15 seconds. Let alone drag your knee up to your elbow in that same position. #nothappening
  • By the time you make it to the Starbucks drive-thru window on your way to work, your hand - and arm - are quivering as you accept your Venti Iced Coffee because you need caffeine that badly. And it actually takes you three tries to spell caffeine. Even with spell check.

And now for a recap...and the pictures. There are a lot of pictures.

Friday
Friday consisted of working from home with little man plopped under his teepee during back-to-back movies. Wouldn't you know on the morning he could've slept in - lord knows he never wants to get up on school days - he wakes up right before 6am. Hence the movies. All the while, whipping up some festive treats for our friend's BBQ later that afternoon.

As you all know I'm a whiz in the kitchen, so getting this out of me, was nothing short of a miracle.

Yep. I dyed noodles for our pasta salad, which consisted of three pots of boiling water at the same time. That's the most action our stove top has seen since, well ever. Ok. I realize boiling noodles in food colored water isn't a feat, but it's me we're talking about. (Although I'm not sure these were worth the effort, especially since I let the water boil over the pots so much that it ruined our stovetop. And I haven't heard the end of it from Nick...)  I also made chocolate covered strawberries and mini s'mores - jumbo marshmallows on a stick, dipped into dark chocolate and then crushed graham cracker. Does anyone else use other people's parties to whip up your own favorite treats? I definitely do. It's like a green light to eat what I want so why not ensure I have some things I actually like. =)

The backyard party was a blast - little man was actually the oldest kiddo there. Love watching him playing with his cousins and our friends' kids. We ate, watched the kids swim, played yard games, chilled and took in some fireworks. It's a tad bit different than how BBQs used to go - meaning less kids, more shots - but I'm a pretty big fan of the way things are these days.

Saturday
We got an early start and packed up for the day/night at my sister's cabin along the Missouri River. My parents met us all there and we immediately decided to beat the heat and take the boat out. I'm pretty sure this was Cruz's first time on a boat....but I don't actually remember. Is that bad? Let's just go with it. He was a bit hot and cold with the whole experience. And let's be honest, it's not like we were boating on a beautiful lake - the mighty Mo is pretty dirty and with all the rain we had to dodge floating trees and other objects that I'm not sure should be floating in rivers. We were only able to go down a few miles before we stopped at a sandbar and let the kids jump out and play in the mud - well, not my kid, I was a bit nervous to let him out of my sight and there was no way I was jumping out of that boat away from the cooler. Kidding. Sorta.

It was a great day - just relaxing, letting the kiddos play in the dirt and run around the entire campsite, swimming, watching Cruz man wow with his wiffle ball skills, grilling, eating, drinking, sitting around the campfire. Until I did my ol' "well I guess Cruz is tired, I better put him to bed' where fell asleep myself, while everyone else hung outside until the wee hours of the morning. #lame

Sunday
We packed up and headed out somewhat early - it was nice to get home and unwind but the weather was just too nice to stick around inside so we pulled out Cruz's fish pool from last year (p.s. disregard the pool pic from last year...I didn't get any but the pool is just too cute not to share. Right?) I pulled my lounge chair right up to the edge so I could dip my foot while getting some color on my pale bod, while Cruz man walked around telling me the pool was for a baby and squirting me with a hose.

And that, my friends, is what makes a pretty kick ass weekend. Hope you all had a great one...and if you also food colored some noodles this weekend, please do tell! =)

My Boy Makes Me Smile

Traveling for work has proven to be a bit tough for me. I just miss my boys.

Or maybe I don't like sitting in a hotel room all night, with a laptop on my lap and Honey Boo Boo on TV.

Whatever the case, for some reason I was having a rough go of it last night and this morning...until I got this.

Without further adieu, my boy singing me the sweetest, albeit off key, serenade of "You Are My Sunshine."

You guys, seriously. That voice? How cute is that?

Five Reasons I Suck at Blogging

Well, hey there.

No you're not dreaming, I'm actually blogging. Yes, me. The girl who tried so hard for a long time to be a thrice weekly blogger only to let work and life get in the way and in turn let the blog suffer.

It's sucked. I've missed it. And you guys.

Eh, that's the way it goes, I guess.

I figured while I was sitting shotgun en route to a little weekend getaway to Kansas City with my two fave guys that I would fill you in on why I've been the worst blogger in the world.

{ONE}
It's summertime. Sweet ole summertime. The sun is out longer which means Cruz and I have to make the most of it. There has been no time to sit around indoors on my laptop writing out blog posts when there are softball games to attend, sidewalks that need chalking, trees to be trimmed and ice cream trucks to track down.

{TWO}
I know it's always my excuse but work has been crazy. I took a new job and I'm handling marketing for our properties in Iowa and Kansas City as well as working with a new team in Vegas. Which has meant two trips to KC and a week in Vegas in the past three weeks. And while a week in Vegas may sound nice, trust me, this old mama isn't cut out for that life anymore.

{THREE}
Fancifying our house has also taken priority. I feel like our home is in major disarray but I'm loving all the improvements we've been making. It's just all the time spent scouring furniture shops in town and on the internet, it takes a lot out of a girl, ya know? #firstworldproblems

{FOUR}
And the shenanigans haven't only happened outside. We've been finding many ways to pass the time indoors too.

{FIVE}
You know what hasn't kept me away from blogging? Working out, that's what. Unfortunately the travel and working and fun in the sun takes priority. At least that's my excuse. I need to wipe the dust off my running shoes.

Linking up with the Five on Friday gals!
