Five On Friday {February 7, 2014}

Ok seriously I feel like I just was lucky enough to have a country concert date night with my man....like three weeks ago. Buuuut, I get to do it all again tomorrow night and I'm super excited.

Luke Bryan.

Lee Brice.

Together...in concert.

Enough said.

If you haven't had the chance to see Luke Bryan shake his hips on stage, ladies, I tell ya get some tickets and go. Seriously even if you aren't a country music fan or even a Luke Bryan fan. The boy can move those hips.

And this mama loves it. =)

Oh, where was I? Oh yeah, my favorite five things. Favorite, most memorable songs edition.  Sorry, Lukey boy, you didn't make the cut but I still love you.

Music has always been a big part of my life. Trust me, I'm not at all saying I'm up on the newest music or coolest bands, but I do love listening to music and how hearing a song can immediately put you back in a moment.

{one}
My all-time favorite song - Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam. I've loved Pearl Jam for years and this song specifically since high school. The guitar solo. 'Yellow' is in the title and we all know how I feel about that color. And it made a cameo on Friends in the season finale when Rachel boarded the plane. All three things that further solidified my love of this song, besides the fact that it's really just that good.

{two}
Songs that bring back relationship memories - Nick and I have been together for 12, almost 13 years but broke up for like a year toward the end of college and into my internship. During that time, we took turns wanting to get back with each other, but never at the same time. When I was really down, these songs were on repeat while I would sit in my car late into the night after bartending, just bawling my eyes out.  Change by Good Charlotte and My Immortal by Evanescence. I swear, even if I hear them today, I tear up because I remember the emotion I used to feel. #majorloser
Wow...we look like babies - circa 2001

When we first broke up he made me a "break up" CD full of sappy songs, my favorite of his selections?  Single For The Rest of My Life by Isyss.  #whosthelosernow   Kidding. I loved that CD.

{three}
One of my favorite performers ever - basically I love any song by Kenny Chesney, but a few of my faves "I Go Back", "Anything But Mine", "Back Where I Come From", "Summertime" and "The Woman With You". The first time seeing him live was quite memorable when we got lucky with Sand Pit passes right next to the stage, to seeing him at The Joint in Las Vegas, to this past summer at Arrowhead when he was with Eric Church, Eli Young Band and Kacey Musgraves.

There is just something about a country concert: cold beers, good friends and great music that I can't get enough of.

{four}
I Will Remember You by Sarah McLachlan. This was our high school graduation song - probably just dated myself here - and brings back memories of excitement, fear, sadness at leaving the only town I'd known and a complete unknowing of what to expect in the next phase of my life. Don't get me wrong it's a complete snoozefest of a song, but nonetheless.

It was also playing in the delivery room when my best friend delivered my first nephew Blake, the summer after high school and makes me think of that kiddo every.single.time.

This is Blake's mama & just happens to be us at Luke Bryan last year

{five}
You Are My Sunshine by Cruz. This was the first song he ever sang to me and I still love when he pulls it out of his arsenal and make me melt. It works every.single.time.  Back then it was the way he said "shun-sine" and serenaded me with it every night while I was rocking him to sleep. Now, he knows just when to use it to get what he wants from his sappy mama.

Ok, I've spilled mine. What are some of your favorite songs?

Cheers to another great weekend!

  5. My husband and I have been together 10 years this year and we too had a year break. Both of us wanting to get back together but at different times. He would email me YouTube videos like "My Life Would Suck Without You" by Kelly Clarkson. So cheesy....but it worked! :)

  6. Omg, I totally love Yellow Ledbetter. Their new song Sirens is one of my current fav's!!! There's just something about Pearl Jam that brings me back. Totally funny how music can do that. I have so many memories linked to songs, it's literally like a time machine when I listen to them. It can be fun and not so fun at the same time. I'm so glad I found your blog from the linkup! Have a great weekend and enjoy your concert! =)

  12. Yes yes yes to your comment about beer, friends and music. Something about a country music concert that makes my heart happy for days. I love all music, frankly (nerd alert: taught band and choir for 7 years). Rock concerts, metal, country, Mannheim.... And to pick a few fave songs?? Oh my, this is gonna be tough. I have so many. Try-p!nk. Strangers on a Train-David nail. Heart Like Mine-Miranda Lambert. Catch You While I Can-David Nail. Rebound-Pomeroy. Janie's Got a Gun-Aerosmith..... And on and on and on
