Cruz Says: What Parents Should Not Say

It's no surprise that I let out the occasional swear word.

It's also no surprise that Nick does as well.

When Cruz got to the point of comprehending, Nick & I had a serious conversation about watching our potty mouths and being more cognizant of what we say.

I thought we were doing okay.

'Thought' being the key word.

Until we came home from out little Chicago getaway and Cruzer & I were running some errands on Sunday night. We swung by the storage unit because Nick was finally grabbing our faux Christmas tree, so we could put it up for approximately one week before our holiday travel starts on Saturday.

Cruz & I were driving home after seeing daddy and he just blurts out, "mama, I just don't know what the f*cken is wrong with my daddy."

I literally had to stifle a laugh. It was so clear that I didn't even have to ask him what he said.

I told him not to say that word and he replied, "but my daddy says it."

I said, "what do you mean, what does daddy say?"

Cruz responds, "f*cken. Daddy says f*cken all the time."

Houston. We have a problem.

I chose to ignore it. That's what we parents do, right? Ignore things we don't want our kids to do/say in hopes it won't be repeated?

Well, that's what I did.

And he used it two more times that night. In full context. Completely accurate.

I'm still choosing to ignore it.

In hopes that it will go away...far, far away.

And on that note...some holiday snaps from a trip to the local nursery and our Angels Among Us Angels Flix/Day w/ Santa a couple weeks ago.

Because these are cute. And saying the word "f*cken" is not.

Cruz Lately

While we had the best time at our adult only resort, little man was always in my head.

When I saw the ocean, I thought about him running in it.

The sand, I thought about him digging in it with his scoop and pail.

The jungle birds and lizards, I basically had to stop myself from calling him over to look at them.

Don't even get me started on our stroll through town with all the families. Those parents should just be happy I didn't try to pick up their kiddos and give them a long squeeze.

Vacation was great, don't get me wrong. But nothing compared to the happy and excited "mama!" that came out of his mouth the moment I saw him for the first time since being back and him running so hard into my arms that he almost knocked me over. Man, I missed him.

Back into the swing of things and I'm realizing how self-sufficient and older he seems. Words and full-blown sentences were just flying out of his mouth. This kiddo also has himself quite the attitude lately it seems. I want to be upset about it, but it's just too damn cute.

Last night as I was putting him to bed, he all but fought me not to sleep in his room.  He said, "mama I sleep wit you an daddy?" all puppy dog eyes. "No buddy you need to sleep in your room and we'll see you in the morning."

He replied, ever so seriously and basically yelling, "Yes! I said so!"

And I held strong. Yes I did. Until he started crying big, huge, real tears. Normally I don't give in so easily but I wanted to cuddle with him. So into our bed he came.

He snuggled in, made himself comfortable and immediately said, "Mama rub my belly. See I leave my shirt up for you." And points to his belly, while moving my hand to it. Of course, I rubbed his little belly, bossy or not.

After he fell asleep I put him in his room for the night and settled in myself. That is, until 4am when I heard him yelling for mama at the top of his lungs.

And I didn't even try to rock him, I wanted more cuddle time, plus let's be honest, I wanted to go back to sleep myself (as if that happened), by the time I got him back to sleep my 4:40am alarm sounded and it was out the door to the gym.

So now I've had my workout, sent a few work emails and I'm ready for work. And look at this guy, would ya? Sound asleep.  And he's going to be quite a bear when I have to wake him up for school here any moment.

All I can say is that it's good to be back. I've missed this little bed hog.

#picturefail: Valentine's edition

Sometimes I like to pretend I'm a photographer. I mean I have a fancy camera bag, that holds an even fancier DSLR camera, that I like to whip out for special ocassions to capture some memories with my little guy.

It was purchased for me, from my then fiance with poker points from his online account.

Now if that's not true love, I'm not sure what is. I mean, this is the guy who bought me an electric toothbrush for valentine's day last year. So he has that going for him.

Oh and by "then fiance" I hope you realize I'm referencing Nick. I've never had another fiance, but reading the above makes it sound like I did. {Just you, honey, it's always been you.}

Anyway, back to the matter at hand.

I've been a bit busy lately but knew I wanted to get some pics of my little valentine and possibly send some cards out to the fam.

So, of course, the night I had free was one where little man seemed to be having a crabby tantrum about every five minutes. Sure, sounds like a great time to try and wrestle him into some good shots.

And here is the result - I didn't even take time to edit these pics, because let's just be honest, no one is going to be changing their profile pic for one of these bad boys.

"mama I just want to lay here with my heart"

fuzzy face. boo.

just what is that white stuff in his hair?

will not give in and look at me for the life of him.

oh wait, there he does. with that annoyed expression.

seriously end of the world stuff right here

"mama, yook at me, i'm in jail"

cheeeeese {looks like he's saying, "there. ya happy?"}
It is moments like these I realize I'm not a photographer and there is a reason we pay professionals to take pictures for us common folk.

Let's just end this on a high note. Would you just look at this little rolly polly Cruz from vday two years ago?  I just want to reach through my screen and squeeze him to pieces.
