Do you ever find that when you're listening to the radio and certain songs come on it brings you back to a memory of a place or a person or a special little dance you made up with your friend back in the day? I swear this has been happening to me a lot lately...maybe it's my love for 90s on 9 on Sirius or just the fact that I have some really great memories with some of my favorite people that happen to involve music.
For example, I was driving from work last night to pick up little man and Notorious B.I.G. 'Mo Money' came on the radio and I just had to turn it up loud, roll down the windows and rock out. Seriously...and people were staaarrring something fierce at ol' girl. I immediately thought of my sister, Tessa, and how she introduced me to this song when she was in college and I was still in high school and taught me how to "throw my rollie in the sky" and "wave it side to side" and every time that song comes on and that part comes on, my right arm goes up in the sky and I wave it side to side like you wouldn't believe!
So it got me thinking about other songs that bring me back to different memories as soon as they come on...
Like the Fugees "Killing Me Softly," my bestie, Angie and I would take mains around our hometown and sing every single word, thinking we were too cool for school. Or Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" and Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" (I know..what a mix, right?) which we played over and over on trips to Norfolk to see these guys we liked in high school.
Or 3 Doors Down "Here Without You" - the song that defined my feelings when I was living alone in New York City and the hubby and I were on a "break" (you know, the Ross & Rachel kind) during my time there and then reconnected and he emailed me to listen to this song and it totally helped us realize that we needed to get back together.
Another would be Sarah McLaughlin's "I Will Remember You" which was our cheesy high school graduation song, but was made more important to me when my bestie, Katie played it on repeat while she gave birth to her son Blake...and every time that song comes on, I break down into massive tears thinking about her and Angie and all of the amazing times we've had together.
Or John Mayer's "Your Body Is A Wonderland" which was on repeat along with his entire CD on my spring break trip with Heather to Denver. We just happened to pick Denver during the worst snow storm they had seen in years, barely made it to our hotel before the entire city shut down and managed to have one of the most fun weekends ever.
Just typing all of this brought back some great memories and makes me think of some of the great times I've been fortunate enough to have in my life.
What songs bring back these types of memories for you?

A Little Bit Country
On our road trip to northeast Nebraska this past weekend, the hubby and I exposed Cruz to one of the finer things in life...which happened to be a country music sing-along to our favorite artist Kenny Chesney.
I grew up on a farm, but in no way was a fan of country music growing up. My dad would flip the station in our pickup truck to country and one or all of us girls would cry and nag until he flipped it back to a pop music station or something equally annoying. I'm not entirely sure when I started falling for country music...it could've been the many nights spent road tripping in high school with my friends or bartending in college at the local Irish pub which coincidentally played quite a bit of country music or listening (on repeat) to the break-up CD filled with Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts that the hubby made for me during our year and a half apart.
I've since been to many country music concerts and can say that some of the best nights of my life have been during a Kenny Chesney concert. Our group has been to many over the years - the first was at the Qwest Center in Omaha - my cousin & I happened to be in the right place at the right time, because we got our group upgraded to Sandbar passes right along the stage. My favorite Chesney concert was on a group trip to Las Vegas and we saw him at The Joint in the Hard Rock Casino, a 4,000-seat venue where he played for four hours straight - Most. Amazing. Show. Ever. And one of the most memorable was March 2011, where again he played in Omaha - it was just after we found out I was preggers and hadn't told anyone. I had to strategically pretend to drink the entire night...but even without the alcohol flowing through my system the show was still amazing.
I'm not sure what it is, but a good country music song just puts me in a great mood. I think a big part of it is because you can actually understand every single word of country music and, therefore, easily learn the songs and sign along to them. And there is something about summer that brings out my love for country music in full force. It makes me think of sitting outside, around a fire, drinking a beer and just enjoying life.
So it's only right that on the first day of summer, I pay a little homage to the music genre that I adore so much. Thank you, country music, for getting me through this little thing called life.

18 Weeks: What's New...
Due date: at our ultrasound appointment yesterday, the tech told us she thinks our due date is off and that I'm actually a week farther along than what we thought. She has me at 19 weeks and my new due date being November 21st. I'm going to confirm with my OB to be sure before making any major changes.
Baby developments: Little Mango is now the size of a sweet potato and is becoming extremely mobile - yawning, hiccupping, punching, kicking, sucking and swallowing. Baby can hear noises outside the womb....I need to start playing some music for this little guy. I saw these CDs at a couple baby stores and can't wait to pick up Pearl Jam, U2, Guns N Roses and a couple others - check them out: Rockabye Baby! Music
Weight gain: I'm sticking at 1-2 lbs above pre-pregnancy weight this week, the tech said I should be really popping any time now and gaining some weight in the next couple of weeks.
Cravings: pretzels & warm cheese are still my major craving....hence the box of 20 pretzels I bought at Sam's Club tonight. I really don't think it was necessary, BUT the pretzel I had with dinner tonight was fantastic! So was the one I had at the College World Series last night....omg, I am ridiculous.
Aversions: nothing out of the ordinary this week.
Symptom: the cold I had last week was definitely a symptom of this little guy taking over my body - it lasted a week and I'm still congested, but feeling so much better than I did last week. I've also had a bit of cramping....nothing terrible, mainly uncomfortable.
Sleep: has been great, but I've been waking up every morning about 15 minutes before my alarm goes off and it's been nice to realize I've got a little more time to sleep - before I snooze again, that is!
I miss: not having to pee every 20 minutes...it's really cramping my style.
I am looking forward to: our 4th of July weekend in Okoboji - we leave on Friday and as I pack up things here and there I'm getting very excited!
I'm spazzing about: finding a pediatrician. This is definitely an important step and I need to get serious about finding one. I thought I would go with Tessa's doctor, but she hasn't been overly impressed the last year or so because her doctor hasn't been available, so now I've actually got to start looking on my own.
Best moment this week: check out the "It's a...." section. Obviously this is the best moment of the week and beyond....I'm so excited we finally know the gender!
Movement: Baby is getting big enough that soon enough I should be able to feel his movements...I cannot wait for this! The way he was moving yesterday in the ultrasound, I can't believe I haven't felt him yet - he was going crazy!
It's a....: OMG....I'm so exited I can finally write something here! We had our ultrasound yesterday and found out it's a BOY!!
Exercise: I only worked out two times last week, but I am blaming that on being sick all last week and maybe a case of the lazies. I just wasn't interested in sweating!
Diet: besides pretzels that I've been craving virtually every week of my pregnancy, here is a little of what my diet included this week...
Goals for the upcoming week: getting serious about my nursery - Tessa and I stopped by NFM and Kid's Stuff Superstore to look at cribs and furniture and I think I found the one I love, plus Nick likes it. We are very lucky because his dad has offered to buy the crib and his mom the dresser, plus my parents will be buying the chair. We've got such an amazing family!

Lemon bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes at One Pacific Place.
Tessa & I went shopping on Sunday and the ONLY thing I bought was this, besides lunch...
Rolo McFlurry from McDonalds - snack size might I add
(as if that makes it better!)
